Impulsive Love A Mountain Haven Series Standalone Author: Lea Coll

Title: Impulsive Love
A Mountain Haven Series Standalone
Author: Lea Coll
Genre: Small Town Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 18, 2022

Will friendship strike out after one night of passion, or will mutual desire make it a home run?

I met the rookie baseball player with piercing blue eyes and a Southern drawl on my first day as a tour guide. Colin Winters was only supposed to be a one-night impulsive indulgence.

Instead, the easy connection between us became an addiction. Colin believed in me when no one else ever had. He encouraged me to take risks and chase my most ambitious dreams. Finally, I was taking charge of my life. Then, two blue lines change everything…

The adventure tour was supposed to be a team bonding experience. All it took was one look at Piper Rigby, the beautiful, blonde tour guide, and I was completely distracted. Her passion for life and photography was inspiring. Yet, sadly, no one had ever encouraged her to follow her dreams. I wanted to be the guy who did.

Being around her was intoxicating. She didn’t care about my major league aspirations or the money that went along with it. In fact, Piper didn’t want anything from me. Which is one of the many reasons I wanted to give her everything. We agreed to one night together, but it just wasn’t enough. One way or another, I’m determined to make her see we belong together. Even if that means taking a timeout in the friend zone for a while…

I was determined to be on that roster at the end of the weekend. I wouldn’t languish in the minors, playing year after year, hoping for something that wouldn’t happen. This was my chance. I might not get another one.
The blonde woman walked through the line of players handing out what looked like an itinerary.
When she handed it to me, a gust of wind caught the bottom of her skirt, causing it to fly up. One hand gripped the papers, trying to get the hair out of her face as the other tried to hold her skirt down.
“Shit,” she cried as the papers flew out of her hands, scattering on the driveway. Seeing that most of the guys had already gone into the lodge, I dropped my duffel on the ground, gathering up the papers before they could get picked up by the wind again.
I’d gathered most of them, but one kept taking off before I could get it. The blonde laughed at my attempts to grab it. The sound carried with the wind.
I made a final grab for it, her hand closing over mine at the last second. The heat of her skin made me pause. Crouching close to the ground, my gaze lifted from the paper we both clutched to her eyes.
Her skin was silky smooth over mine. I wanted to turn my hand so our palms touched. My heart was racing, and it wasn’t from the chase. It was her.
The air between us sparked with awareness.
Her mouth opened on a gasp as she let go of me. “Sorry.”
My skin tingled, and my brain short-circuited as I rose to full height, her head barely coming up to my shoulder.
Her cheeks were flushed as she pulled strands of hair from her face. Laughing, she said, “That wind came out of nowhere.”
One hand hovered on her skirt, presumably to stop it from flipping up again, her other hand shielded the sun from her eyes. Her eyes were a multifaceted crystal blue. I’d never seen anything like it.
My breath tight in my chest, I asked, “Are you one of our guides?”
Dropping her hand from her forehead, her eyes crinkled. “I’m kind of along for the ride.”
I remained silent, hoping she’d give me more details.
“The views will be beautiful.” Her tone was wistful.
I handed her the papers, wondering what her story was and how the view on our trip could be any more stunning than her with her blonde hair flying in the wind, her eyes wide, and her cheeks flushed.
Lowering her gaze, she tried to smooth the wrinkles from the papers.
I hadn’t really thought about what we’d see on the tour or the fact that it might be enjoyable. It was merely a task I needed to complete. “It will be if you’re there.”
Her gaze flew up to mine.
My face heated. The sun was warm on my face, the now light breeze blew her hair across her face.
A flush tinged her cheekbones. “Thank you.”
Her voice was soft, her words almost melodic.
Who was this woman, and why was I reacting to her like this?
Wanting more time with her, I asked, “Do you work here?”
It was obvious she did, but I couldn’t come up with anything more interesting to ask.
She nodded, pointing a thumb over her shoulder even though the porch was empty. “Yeah, my brother, Henry, owns the lodge.”
“Oh.” The mention of her brother made me pause. He was probably the man on the porch.
“I’m just helping out around here. I work at the barber shop.” She shrugged.
The flush on her cheeks deepened, traveling down her neck to the her chest visible in her summer dress.
She was beautiful. The silence between us lengthened, growing almost awkward. The desire to ask her more questions, to extend this moment, throbbed in my chest, but I was at a loss for what to say.
“There you are. Colin, get in here.” Rod’s voice carried from the porch.
I startled, not realizing how far we’d run from the porch to grab the papers. “I’d better go inside.”
I took long strides, eating up the distance we’d traveled.
Rod went back inside, leaving us alone again.
Sensing her walking behind me, I slowed my gait so she could catch up.
Stopping on the porch, she smiled shyly. “Thank you for grabbing the papers.”
“You’re welcome.”
“This one’s the best, I think.” She thrust a paper in front of me.
I liked that she was just as flustered as I was from our encounter. Glancing at the itinerary, I noticed I had an early start tomorrow. Instead of being annoyed, I was looking forward to seeing her again.
I held my hand out to her. “I’m Colin Winters.”
She clasped my hand; her skin was cool underneath mine. “Piper Rigby.”
It’s nice to meet you, Piper.”
She was beautiful in the dress, but I wondered what she’d look like tomorrow in formfitting bicycle shorts riding in front of me. Every muscle in my body tightened at the image.
Letting go of my hand, she pushed open the door. “Henry will be wondering where I am.”
She slipped inside without another glance in my direction.
I took a deep breath before following her, carefully schooling my face.
I didn’t want Coach to think I was distracted. No matter how beautiful the tour guide was, I was here to prove I was a worthy member of the team.

Pike Series: Sin City Saints #2 Author: Brenda Rothert

Title: Pike
Series: Sin City Saints #2
Author: Brenda Rothert
Genre: Hockey Romance
Release Date: January 18, 2022

In Sin City, the stakes are high. Bet big and you may win it all—but you could also lose far more than you bargained for.

Indie Garrison is in over her head. Ditched by her husband in the dead of the night, she’s suddenly a broke single mom living with her sister. Sure, she and pro hockey player Pike Morgan got off on the wrong foot in a big way, and admittedly, it was entirely her fault. But Indie’s been fooled by a man for the last time, and no matter how hard Pike tries to break down her walls, she’s not falling for him. At least, that’s what she keeps telling herself.

Pike Morgan is at the top of his game. Being drafted by the new Las Vegas expansion team was ideal for the bearded, blue-eyed NHL goalie who’s only serious about two things: hockey and partying. When he accepts a bet from a teammate, he finds himself wooing a spirited woman who wants nothing to do with him. Once he gets to know her and her young son, though, he regrets his wager. If Indie finds out the truth, she’s going to hate the player and the game.

“What do you think of the new blocker?” Katz asks me.
We’ve just finished up practice but we’re still on the ice. I smile as I watch Rudy getting hit with rapid-fire pucks. He’s a good guy who dreamed of playing pro hockey but didn’t make it, so he became a trainer instead. His name’s actually John, but we call him Rudy because of his enthusiasm for being the best practice goalie ever.
“It’s okay,” I say, taking off the blocker I’m wearing. It’s a new model Katz asked me to try out in practice.
“You’re not ready to wear it in games yet,” Katz says.
“No way. Me and my blocker are like Smeagol and his ring.”
Katz grins. “I never would have pegged you as a Lord of the Rings fan.”
“Are you kidding? I love that shit. The movies, I mean. It would take me years to get through the books, and I’m not much of a reader.”
“Morgan!” Our head coach, Phil Bear, calls out to me while pointing at someone standing next to him. “This intern needs to see you. Get your ass over there!”
Coach never bothers to learn the names of any of the front office interns. I look over, squinting to make out the face Coach is talking about. I think his name is Shawn, but I’m not confident enough to call him that out loud. I nod in response to him and set my blocker, catcher, and mask on the bench before skating over to the intern at the end of the rink.
I think I talked to Shawn once, and he seemed like a good guy. He’s a college student from what I remember. My gaze immediately shifts to the woman next to him, who is smoking hot. She’s petite, with glossy black hair that falls just to her shoulders in a straight line, beautiful light brown skin, and warm brown eyes. Unfortunately, though, she’s glaring at me.
“What can I do for you?” I ask.
“Sorry to interrupt practice,” Shawn says. “This woman says—”
The exotic hottie cuts him off. “You’re Pike Morgan?”
I grin. “The one and only.”
“You bought a baseball from Vegas Sports Collectors.”
“The Roger Maris one?”
What’s this about? I furrow my brow, wondering what this woman has to do with the baseball I just added to my collection.
“I’m the seller,” she says. “They brokered it for a commission. And when my sister gave it to the guy from Vegas Sports Collectors, she didn’t realize I had put my grandmother’s ring inside the case. Can I please have the ring back?”
“There was no ring inside that case.”
Her nostrils flare slightly. I’d find it cute if she wasn’t so pissed off at me for no reason.
“I distinctly remember putting it in the Roger Maris baseball case a few weeks ago. It’s not valuable. I mean, it’s not monetarily valuable, but it holds a lot of sentimental value for me. It was my grandma’s, and it’s all I have left of her.” Tears shine in her eyes. “Can I please have it back?”
“I’d give it to you if I had it, but I don’t.”
“I know it was in there.”
I shake my head. “I already took the ball out of the case it was in and put it in a new one. There was nothing but the ball in that case.”
“That’s impossible! The case has a latch, so there’s no way it opened and fell out on accident.”
I shrug.
“Look, you must make good money, so what’s a little sapphire ring to you?”
“Listen—what’s your name?”
“Indie Garrison.”
“Listen, Indie Garrison—I don’t have it, okay?”
She buries her face in her hands, and the picture tugs on my heartstrings because it looks like she’s crying, but it only lasts a nanosecond. Because when she lifts her face to look at me, the only expression I see if complete and utter fury.
“I’m willing to buy it,” she says in a level tone.
This chick is about half crazy. She’s right—why would I give a shit about someone’s sapphire ring? I wouldn’t care if it was a giant diamond ring. If it wasn’t mine, I’d return it.
If I had it.
“I can’t sell you something I don’t have.”
“So what, it just disappeared into thin air?”
“I have no idea. I paid for the ball and picked it up yesterday, then took it out of the case and put it in my display case. You’re welcome to have the original case back, but it’s empty.”
“Okay…” Shawn tactfully clears his throat and gives me an apologetic look. “You asked me to see Mr. Morgan and you’ve done that, so…”
Indie gives him a withering glare. She may be small, but damn, this woman has some fire.

The Assignment Author: Penelope Ward

Title: The Assignment
Author: Penelope Ward
Genre: Standalone Contemporary Romance
Cover Design: Letitia Hasser, RBA Designs
Photographer: Scott Hoover
Model: Jay Byars
Release Date: February 28, 2022

From New York Times bestselling author Penelope Ward, comes a new standalone novel.

Reasons why I should not be drawn to Troy Serrano.
Number one: He’s obnoxious.
Number two: He and I were enemies over a decade ago in high school.
Number three: He’s my friend’s ex-boyfriend.
I could go on and on, really.
When my boss gives me an unwanted assignment and tells me it involves spending time with the grandson of one of our residents—the grandson turns out to be Troy. He’s now as successful as he is undeniably handsome.
Lucky me. Four hours a week of having to deal with his insufferable personality and unsolicited advice.
The only consolation is getting to stare at his annoyingly gorgeous face in between our many arguments.
Eventually, though, we slowly warm to each other and our outings become something I actually look forward to.
What’s happening to me?
Apparently, I misunderstood the assignment, because it certainly didn’t include thinking about Troy when I close my eyes at night, imagining what it would be like with him—just once. All the while hating myself for fantasizing about a guy who’s all wrong for me. A guy whose car I keyed back in the day. (Long story, but he deserved it.)
That’s all this is—a fantasy.
Well, until that one night at the bar.
The night Troy and I run into each other, and all of our pent-up frustration comes barreling out.
Still, I refuse to accept that it means anything.
There’s no way the guy I’m supposed to hate is also the one I can’t live without.

Make Me Whole Series: Oil Barrons #1 Author: Marie Johnston

Title: Make Me Whole
Series: Oil Barrons #1
Author: Marie Johnston
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: January 18, 2022

I had a perfect life. Schoolteacher. Married to my high school sweetheart. Little starter house that we called charming but was really just old. All I needed was the two-point-five kids and I’d be living my perfect dream. Then my husband died.

After the funeral, I had a breakdown that lasted for a month…or twelve. But now I’m reemerging, healing, finding my way. It’s time to learn who I am now, and whether or not I can fix a leaky sink. And by my side, the entire time, is my husband’s best friend, Liam. The single dad knows a thing or two about personal struggles, and about how to replace faucets.

With Liam, I feel alive again. Confident. Capable. Liam has become my best friend too. Except if my parents, my in-laws, and the rest of the town had any say, I’d stay far away from him and his bad boy reputation.

How do I admit to them what’s so hard to admit to myself? That I’m starting to look at him like he’s more than a friend. That the heat in his eyes when he looks at me is far beyond friendly. That like it or not, Liam makes me feel whole again.

Blinking to adjust to the dimmer light, it wasn’t hard to find Liam. Sparks flew from the far corner, where the light from the open door had the hardest time penetrating.
The torch Liam held went dark. He flipped his face shield up so it rested on top of his head. “Hey. That time already? The afternoon got away from me.”
He set his equipment on the work bench by the hunk of metal he’d been working on. He slapped his thick gloves down and took the face shield off. Then he shrugged out of his well-worn leather apron.
I blinked again, but it had nothing to do with lighting. His long-sleeved blue T-shirt with the logo of a bar and grill in Williston was plastered to his chest and back. A smattering of singe holes gathered around the collar and a few tiny ones on the sleeves where the apron didn’t reach. Liam adjusted his shoulders like he was trying to dislodge the fabric from his skin, but all the move did was make his muscles ripple.
I’d known Liam wasn’t the same lanky kid from high school, but I’d never had proof like this.
He ran a hand through his hair—same effect. Biceps bulging and rippling muscle.
My brain snapped a picture, like someday I might need to reference the type of man that could get my libido going again.
Which I wasn’t looking for. Dating wasn’t on my radar, much less…activities beyond that.
Although recently I’d been thinking… I gave myself a mental shake. My therapist said there was nothing wrong with thinking about dating someday. Nothing wrong with dating itself. Nothing wrong with not being ready. Nothing wrong with dating while still not feeling ready. I hadn’t reached that point yet. And I didn’t have to think about it at Liam’s.

“What am I doing?” I growled through my frustration.
“Looking at me like that.”
“Like what?”
“Like you hate me, but you don’t. I know you don’t.”
Her fingers curled into my shirt, and my eyes dropped to the hold she had on me. I couldn’t trust myself to look at her, or the torment I knew I’d find in her face. But her shaking breath returned my attention to her lips, the bottom glistening wet from her tongue that ran along its length. Why wouldn’t she let this go? Let me go? Why’d she have to force this confrontation when we could’ve just kept on denying the static in the air when we passed, even at a distance?
Mio salvatore,” she said softly.
It tore me up inside when she called me that, and I couldn’t meet her gaze. I watched her mouth form words that made my chest ache with the same kind of pain quivering through her voice.
“For so long you’ve ignored me. Every time we could’ve connected, you turned your head so you wouldn’t have to see me. But I’m begging you, please. See me now, Luca.”
I pushed from the wall, wrenching from the grip she had on my soul. She captured what was left of it two million minutes ago with a look, a heart-stopping, wide-eyed, pulse-pounding look. I’ve made myself hate her ever since, and we both needed a reminder of my revulsion.
“Oh, I have, Vivienne. I’ve seen you grow from a caged bird into this delicate woman hiding in that church and behind smiles at the shelter. Acts of absolution for the mob princess to feel better about Daddy’s work.”
“Go to hell.”
I caught her wrist a second before her palm made contact with my face. Twisting her arm around her lower back, I tugged her to my chest. She was pissed, spitting fire from cold eyes when I hid my feelings under a mask of indifference. I couldn’t care about her. The way things were going with this family, she wouldn’t make it to her twenty-fourth birthday. The boss’ daughter was not my concern. Finito. Fatto. The end.
“Grow up, Vivi. Learn how to use the Glock before strapping it to your thigh and staring dumbstruck at the men gunning you down. Look around, open your eyes. Simone’s dead and that means there are new rules. A new world order. No one is protecting you now.”
I thought she’d hiss and scratch from my warning. Instead, enough time passed for anger to simmer into something else altogether. Something hot and intense and undefined. Something that felt like once in a lifetime, and really fucking stupid. An illicit chill danced over my skin. I ached for Vivienne, to taste her mouth and the long line of her neck. Our mirrored breathing heaved together as she eased against my grip, molding along the hard lines of my body. We were at war with each other. One minute furious, the next desperate to connect. The reaction was baffling, and I hated chaos.
“Now you’re wrong.” Her whisper wafted along my throat. She was much too soft and tempting, and the dumbest situation I had ever gotten myself into. “You gave me your protection at the funeral.”
I sighed, releasing her. “This again.”
She stepped into my space. “You’re after my truth, and I seek yours. Why did you come for me? You should’ve stayed with my father, or at the very least secured Stefano or Dante’s safety. But you didn’t. Why?”
As if magnetic attraction forced the connection, she traced the line of my scar—drawing my blood to pool beneath her fingers. I closed my eyes for a second, then retreated from her touch.
“You don’t know what you ask for, Vivienne. I’m not who you think I am. I’m not—”
Amongst other things.
I nodded. “And you would do well to remember the warning.”
She sought the truth. I gave it with a scowl, leaving her alone even when the monster within me wanted her to follow.

Vi Keeland and Penelope Ward are excited to bring you the Cocky Hero Club: original works from various authors inspired by Keeland and Ward’s New York Times bestselling Cocky Bastard series.

When I left Manhattan to go to a technology conference in the Cayman Islands, only to run right into my competitor Hansen, AKA the Tech God, I should have known things would get complicated.

We were both there to land the cybersecurity contract for Morgan Financial Holdings, and neither of us were willing to play nice.

But I didn’t expect things to get so messy when the hotel screwed up our reservations and I ended up having to share the same hotel room with Hansen.

If only he wasn’t so good looking, and if only the last two years of our flirting hadn’t led to a big question: to hook up or not to hook up.

Guess what…we did.

There were rules in place, though. Unfortunately, neither of us liked rules—we were like two peas in a pod.

After all, what happens on a tropical island, stays on a tropical island. Right?

But our competition took a turn, and what happened next was something neither of us wanted to leave behind.

Cocky Tech God is a close proximity/competitors to lovers romance inspired by Stuck-Up Suit.
